Hi, I'm Emma Sutherly! I'm a recent graduate from Kansas State University's Ag Communications & Journalism and Animal Science & Industry programs.
Rooted in a diverse agricultural background spanning both crop production and livestock, I’m passionate about building relationships and serving the people behind the industry. With experience in agriculture communications, sales, and customer engagement, I enjoy understanding unique needs, connecting people with solutions, and creating long-term impact.

Field Sales Rep Trainee
Bayer Crop Science
- Successfully created and executed a marketing campaign promoting cover crops. The campaign included social media posts, emails, and text messages targeted at ranchers grazing cattle and producers growing crops.
- Developed Lawn Chair Chats to highlight summer interns. Interviewed 11 interns and used the video footage to create social media posts.
- Created social media content to increase user engagement across platforms.
- Crafted and distributed monthly newsletters for MKC, Midwest Fertilizer, and Producer Ag teams. Also curated specialized newsletters for producers, highlighting relevant information, news, and upcoming events.
- Conducted interviews and wrote four articles for MKC's Annual Report. Designed various printed materials including a Sales Kick-off Playbook, career fair banners, postcards, flyers, stickers, and meeting agendas.
- Photographed events and edited photos using Adobe Lightroom
- Updated MKC and Midwest Fertilizer websites to include monthly blogs.
2025
Crop Science Sales Intern
Bayer Crop Science
- Conducted a grower feedback survey with seven producers across Michigan, gathering insights on Bayer, the local DEKALB/Asgrow team, and perceptions of the E.L.Y. to identify opportunities for improved service, address concerns, and better align with grower expectations.
- Facilitated and hosted grower field days with the Michigan DEKALB/Asgrow team, presenting on upcoming products Preceon and Vyconic, and highlighting their agronomic benefits.
- Expanded agronomic knowledge through Bayer trainings, Michigan State University’s Weed Day, and events at the Mason Research Farm, gaining insight into weed management strategies, corn and soybean traits and varieties, and management practices that support crop performance.
- Collaborated with the Technical Agronomist and Customer Business Advisor to film, edit, and produce timely, local educational agronomy videos for social media, delivering relevant information and reminders to support grower education and enhance brand awareness.
- Planted five test plots at retail locations, learning their role in product demonstration and supporting sales strategies.
- Learned about and performed stand counts, scouted corn and soybean fields, and monitored test plots to assess crop emergence, health, and product performance, developing practical agronomy skills.
- Participated in business planning meetings to gain insight into sales programs, territory management, and customer relationship strategies.
- Completed sales training with RC Thomas Company, learning advanced techniques in grower communication, including overcoming objections, reframing mindsets, expanding conversations beyond the ag circle, and building strong connections to support increased production.

Animal Science Mentor
- Provided tours of Weber Arena and Kansas State University animal units for prospective Animal Science students.
- Reached out to potential students and Kansas 4-H and FFA youth with cards.
- Volunteered and worked a booth at the Kansas Junior Livestock Show as part of the outreach program.
- I brought potential students along to my ASI classes and explained the unique opportunities that K-State Animal Science offers.

CAT Community Learning Assistant
- Assisted in leading classroom learning for 23 students.
- Developed and planned three co-curricular activities to grow a close-knit community within the classroom and enhance the class experience.
